But you can test this tonight. When they are gaming, go to the router and turn it off. If you hear complaints, you just proved they are on the internet.

As to how to set up their own connection, it's not too hard or expensive. Google these words.

To implement my bandwidth cut, just set up that WAP to 802.11b mode.

What I am saying is that they aren't on Xbox Live, not using the Internet. does it still take up broadband?

Also, how much broadband does it "eat up" and how much could it be slowing my computer down?
Could it be that my computer is slow on its own, and has weak settings maybe? What's the deal?

But you answered your own question. I'm guessing you need others to write you're right. If they are logged into Live, then it is connected. If you turn off the router you will know very quickly if this is true or not. The old XBOX used a wifi or ethernet add on. The new model is WiFi so you would have to know if that's on or off.

How much bandwidth does XBox use? No one can answer that one. It varies with the games, and if there are updates in progress.

As to your computer, there so little about that here and it's not the topic. If it is the topic a lot more detail is needed.

For example, sometimes I ask what WiFi channel the router is on and what security is used. Many folk simply use the thing. So we get to chat about administration.

I'm only working with limited details and have to take your word they are on XBox Live (which requires the internet connection.)

Kids will be kids and if they think the parent will cut their internet will tell you the machine isn't on the internet but just XBox Live.

K I got one for ya bob. If the Xbox is plugged into the Internet via Ethernet cord, but the Xbox is powered down, how much bandwidth is that taking up? Also, are there residual results on my Internet speed connection after my kids have finished playing?

So my answer to that is zero. It uses nothing.

To get that icon, click the "Turn visual editor ON". Then clicking on the SMILEY ( ) and select any from there.
