I never keep connections open for long. In my apps I've learned over the years to not expect a connection to work for days at a time. That's why my apps close connections when idle and then open them on demand. No maintenance required!

Let's talk about offices.

If you want smooth office use, you see most issues are rarely the server but the users as they tinker, infect the PCs and more.

If you want to run smoothly you invest in backup systems and test that you can restore the system. You also keep a backup server ready for the day the server is stolen, goes down in flames, flood or meteor strikes. I'm not kidding.

I've yet to find any cure all to office problems but if you want it to be under control then you never allow the BYOD craze in the office and become draconian in your administration.

Then again this may be a career ending move and you have to live with the trouble.
