Networking & wireless forum: What's the diff between a wireless print server & Access Pt

And an access point is just that. I don't see how that could solve this but DEFINITIONS of the gear are on the internet so I'll not duplicate such because either device you asked for does not appear to solve this.

If I wanted to solve this I'd be looking for a network bridge or a wifi client with ethernet ports.

I think the router located upstairs is Netgear. Don't have the model with me but it was purchased new within the past year so the technology should be fairly new and up-to-date.

The wireless print server downstairs is a NetGear model WGPS606. It is 802.11g

I have read the definitions on the internet. They probably make sense to a techy but not to me.

I've been reading about bridges, access points, and repeaters. Still confused.

I have another router in my closet. It's new, unused but a couple of years old. (Yes, I've read the warnings about WEP weaknesses). It has 4 LAN ports I can use to hook up my electronic equipment. If I place it near the electronic equipment downstairs, will that talk to my router upstairs wirelessly?

SO with that out of the way the only trouble I have with this is it only provided WPA-PSK security and now that that security is busted in 5 or less minutes I replaced mine and will have my brother dispose of these old things.

But setup can task today's users.
