Problem switching to wirless connection on laptop

I have a WIN 7 Toshiba Satallite laptop. I usually have my laptop hooked up to the router, and reserve wireless connecting in situations I want to be mobile with the laptop. Today i discovered there is a problem with using the FN key with F8. It comes up like normal but there is a message under the wireless icon. Message >> Wireless communication disabled. please turn on wireless communication switch. I only know of one swith and that is switching back and forth from wired to wireless by using FN key at the same time pressing the F8 key. it won't change. This happened "by itself" inbetween time I last set it to wireless. What can I do? No my laptop is just a desktop with no option to be wireless.Thanks to anyone who replies.

Toshiba can have it's own helper app.

It varies with time and model but the last Tosh I had would have me unplug the ethernet and if the owner had hard coded the ethernet addresses I had to undo that then pull up the Tosh wifi utility to turn on the WiFi.
