99.9% of the time I use a desktop Mac OSX 4.11, on Roadrunner cable. I just bought an iPad 2, wi-fi only which I will mostly use at work, but would like to be able to use at home as well.
The long story short is that I'm not able to use the Mac Airport as my router for the iPad, so I need to get a router and this is my question:
I would prefer to continue using the wired connection for my desktop, but from what I understand, the router replaces my modem rather than adds to it. (Please correct me if that's wrong!) So what I'm wondering is, how difficult is it to add the router when I want to sit out in the backyard with the iPad, and then subtract it when I want to be wired on the desktop?
Is it a simple matter of just doing all the settings the first time, then plugging and unplugging when I wanted to switch? Or every time I wanted to switch from cable modem to router, would I have to reconfigure a bunch of things? (In other words, would it be a nightmare.)
OR: is there a way I could have both set up, and be using the desktop wired while somebody was using the iPad wirelessly?
Thanks!
