Spanning Tree question

I am new to networking and currently working on implementing a network in my company's Lab to be used by multiple teams.
I have a question on spanning tree protocol, "Along with the switches used, does spanning tree depend on the network card (NIC) used in the desktops/servers ?"
I believe the answer is no, but just need a confirmation from experts.

Spanning tree is just a series of special messages sent by equipment to avoid loops in a network. Devices (both switches and others) that only have a single connection to a network cannot cause a loop so there is no need to send spanning tree message to/from these connections. This does not mean a server cannot produce and act on spanning tree messages it just has little purpose. Its not like the server would ever block its only connection to a network.

Few more clarifications requested:

1. Does this mean, there are Network interface cards (like Broadcom and Intel) which are capable of understanding spanning tree messages..?

2. What is the role a Network card plays during spanning tree process.?

It is not the cards that matter it is the OS. Spanning tree is nothing special it is just a special broadcast mac address. The interface card will just accept the packet and give it to the OS.

Even if the OS receives it and understands now what. Pretty much all the spanning tree message says is your cost to the root bridge is x. If you only have a single network card does it matter what the value is you only have a single path.
