Networking & wireless forum: IP POWER 9258 SERVER Setup

Hi, Thanks for the help.

I don't mind getting the 2 IP's for each machine. However, If that's is the solution, how would they be setup in the Linksys router as well as the IP 9258. Are you familiar with the IP 9258 hardware? Here's the manual

Also, I might have to reconfigure the BL-C11A Panasonic IP camera. Nothing is easy these day's but would like to make this setup fool proof with a nice back up plan to restore the network if it has issues.


Also, good idea and I will be getting a small UPS for short outages if any that would cause issues for the hardware.

The ISP (internet service provider) will provide you with the second IP and setup notes.

Sorry but it does cost money so most folk find it cheaper to add the UPS and swap routers.

Tip about the router. Turn off wifi if you can and always secure with WPA2 if you can't avoid wifi.

Should I just turn off the wifi and secure with WPA2 before I leave my remote location?

I don't want to sound bad here. But you have to make choices. I can't tell you more than what I would do. That is I would either disable WiFi (that's as secure as it gets, plus it's less work for the router, less lockups) or you leave it on but secure it with WPA2 (that's the best we have today.)

It would not make sense to do both and here's the problem. I apologize but when I duplicate my reply we're duplicating effort and not covering new areas like why you need more than one IP and how that's done.

I have to guess you need more about swap routers. That is, we (our shop) has a few routers. When one locks up we'll change it to another model. We learned over the years not to put the same model there. I hope you can guess why.

That is, with everything, everyone wanting to put it on a network, 24x7 reliability is what they want next.

Bob,

I decided to buy the additional Static IP address from Comcast for my remote location and feed it to the IP 9258 Power server so it's not dependent on my local Linksys wireless router.

If the Linksys router or Camera has issues, I can now power down and restart either one. I just got to make sure I don't shut down the Cable modem.

If I do have any issues "if any" I can always have the ISP reboot the Cable Modem.

Again, I can now restart the IP camera OR the Linksys Router because the IP9258 server is not dependent on the local router.


I can't go wrong here. However, I'll still put a small APC/ UPS for and power outages etc.

I forgot to mention: What did you mean about this?

I find this to really help and if the router locks up we swap that out.
