The truth nothing but the whole truth about proxy servers

Hi metwork experts
I was reading some official stuff on proxy and I'm wondering. Is it really true that doing things under proxy I am hundred percent anonymous? I won't be traced right? If that's case why hackers don't use proxy servers when they're getting information about their target? I mean I read articles and advice about hacking (white hat) and they don't really mention using proxy. When they get caught they get caught by their IP right? so Why didn't they use proxy servers instead? Anyway what are the drawbacks of using proxy, there must be something behind it.

But no. If I was a smart government I would put proxy servers out there that look like the real thing and make them free so I can collect information on those that are trying to hide.

So there it is. How do you know that your proxy is not what it seems?

If that were the case, how would you be able to visit any web site? Someone, somewhere must know your true IP address; your ISP already does as the data goes through them into your computer regardless, and the proxy server administrators do as well, if you are signed up to them

And as to proxy servers, finding the ones that are not risky is the difficult task anyway, and the honest ones are the ones who will comply with law enforcement agencies if required.

So in answer to your question, truly anonymous? No.
