Hello All-

I have a 5 year old netgear router providing a wireless network for my home. Laptops that will connect into the new router are a windows 7 lenovo, and a windows xp samsung.

I have the following questions:

1.When removing the old router should I erase the no longer needed WPA security code or will that be automatically overwritten by the new router?

2. I have a DSL line from ATT. do I need to contact them regarding this upgrade before I start this conversion? Will they need to make any changes on their end?

3. The router is not connected to a computer. at one time the router was connected to a desktop, however I no longer use that and it is disconnected. The existing router supports only laptops. My instructions however seem to show a connection to a desktop in all the installation drawings. How do I handle this?

4. There are no gamers in our home, we have not downloaded movies. We pretty much surf for written content. I understand that there are dual bands with this router. Is one preferable to the other for the types of things that we do or will the router automatically manage the traffic?

Lastly, what differences should i look for when using my new router? I purchased this router after reading several favorable reviews. I was concerned that my old router posed a security issue (WPA) and wanted to upgrade for that reason primarily. Will I notice a much faster access with the new router? or am I just safer using later generation technology?.
