Coryphaeus has noted the other methods too. Too bad the make and model was not shared. Maybe someone has more exact advice?

Thanks for your reply, I did learn that you can burn an updated BluRay DVD disc on a computer and use that to update the software, but they tell you it could be risky and may disrupt it's original software and this scared me. What is the USB thumb drive method, not heard of this procedure.

Never heard of that. I think I'd be more concerned with the Ethernet connection to the Internet getting a hiccup and droping the connection. BTW, who is "they"? Sony recommends it.

A thumb drive is the small USB device that acts like a hard drive. You could copy the update to the drive and have the player look there for the update. Typical thumb drives are here:

These drives can be used for any storage.

Thanks for your reply. I have one of these thumb drives, I think? I thought they are for storage only. The one I have is a 4.0 Gig Maxwell similar to what was shown on the link you sent. Do you think I can use this to store the BluRay down load I obtain from my computer, then insert it in the Sony BluRay DVD USB port and have it update the software? Will wait for your reply.

The thumb drive will store any data be it pictures, documents, some programs, and firmware updates for devices. Use it as you would any storage device like an external hard drive or optical media. I now notice that your device is a Sony. Per Sony the procedure for updating the firmware using a CD-R.

To update the software using an update disc You can update and improve the functions of the player using an update disc provided by Sony dealer or local authorized Sony service facility. 1 Insert the update disc. The display asks for confirmation. 2 Select "OK," and press ENTER. Software update starts. When updating finishes, "FINISH" appears for 5 seconds in the front panel display, then the disc tray automatically opens. 3 Remove the disc. The player automatically turns off. 4 Press [/1 to turn the player on. The player starts up with the updated software.

It does not discuss using a thumb drive so that was my mistake.

I've updated my BDP-S360 twice using the downloaded and burned firmware on a CD-R.

Thanks for your input, I have ordered the Sony update disc and plan on using it. I will probably use a 30 ft. Ethernet cord in the future connecting my router to the BluRay in the future. My Router is just around the corner where it's connected to my Internet Modem. Thanks for your help, all seems to be resolved.

Where are you located, I'm in the St. Louis, Missouri Metro Area USA where the weather is very cold 15F/7C and 2-3 inches of snow here, not a place I want to be this time of year. Thanks again,

are nice. Irving, suburb of Dallas. Three days ago I was riding my '08 Goldwing. Today it's 53, crystal clear, dead calm. Supposed to be 65 this weekend and I'll be riding again. I spend a lot of time in Street Louis back in the 80s doing telecom training for the phone company so I'm well aware of the St. Louis winters.

I worked for AT&T for 13 years so the telephone business is familiar to me. While you worked in the 80's I worked for them in the 60's out of college, so I am somewhat older, but I still keep up with the electronics stuff. The biggest thing I find now-a-days is that my electronic knowledge was before the advent of the transistor and I worked with the phone company when all electronic equipment use tubes, which has long since disappeared. You are much smarter and wiser than me because you know the modern stuff and I'm still in the stone ages. Would like to chat with you by email so if you can figure out a way to do that so our email address won't be seen on these threads, let me know. Glad to hear your weather is better than ours, I have friends who live in Dallas and we love Papasitos Restaurant, have you been there?
