Hello,
I know from my lack of knowledge this is probably a basic question but I'm a little frustrated with figuring this out.
I have Verizon DSL coming in to the main floor of the house right into a Verizon 7500 modem/router combo. I do not have internet hard wired to any computers. For the most part, the signal is decent on the main floor. I have had to reset the modem/router often but think it's a pretty poor piece of equipment.
My bigger problem is I get no signal in the finished basement. My understanding is that this is fairly common in older/thicker homes. The basement is finished and I would really like to use wireless devices there. What is the best approach? If I need to add a wired access point in the basement, any recommendations?

I haven't tried a powerline option yet. Just did a little reading on them. So you connect one to the router and another to an outlet in the "dead zone"? Only issue I might have is I have two electrical circuits in the house so I would need to make sure both outlets worked off the same circuit.

If I suspect it will fix it I send the tech out with it. Usually we can try a few outlets and it works to fill in such places. In a pinch I can move a breaker in the panel but I'm an old school electrician and more.

I had this issue once and I ended upmoving the router to the mid house point which gave it best performance due to distance. Not sure how far away your basement is from your router, but sometimes ( since all your units are wireless) just moving the contact point makes a huge difference. Nothing says that you have to have the router next to a wall other than convenient access to cable. I would have one question, is it actually a "dead zone" or a distance issue? Of course distance issues are easier to take care of, as dead zones require methods as mentioned by R. Proffitt - which in that case would be a good idea.
