How to turn a XP desktop into Wi-Fi Hotspot

I read this following article to turn my XP desktop into Wi-Fi hotspot for my Vista laptop.
I bought a MediaLink MWN-USB 150N Wirless N USB Adapter and followed exactly the instruction.
The problem is: My Vista laptop cannot find the Wi-Fi hotspot I just create, although it appears on my XP desktop.
If I used the included software to make my adapter as a Router, my Vista laptop can find the network and can connect to it. The problem is the internet connection always shows 'Identifying IP address' and later on it shows 'Unidentified IP address'.
I also tried to hook up my laptop with the wire connection and using Vista to do the vice versa. (I did this before once when my friends and I went to Vegas and we were able to turn my laptop into a wi-fi hotspot through the hotel's wire internet). The similar situation happens. I'm able to setup a wi-fi network but:
+ Using the Wireless Connections of Windows XP, my desktop cannot find the hotspot.
+ Using the included software with the adapter, I can connect to the wifi network, but it's unable to go to Internet.
So this is my situation. I appreciate any helps from you all.
