Local Area Connection cannot connect please help

Hi guys, Im losing my mind with this computer! My internet is working fine, but my Ethernet cannot get a connection. On my Ethernet Local Area Connection it says status is: Limited or no connectivity i am running an Ethernet cable from my xbox 360 to the Ethernet adapter slot at the back of my computer, no wireless or anything. And as i say the internet works fine though i cant get any connectivity out of the Ethernet adapter.This used to work fine two weeks ago, now it refuses to work i recently moved and so i disconnected my pc nothing broke and all it did was sit around in a safe place before the move EVERYTHING worked fine, On my xbox the display says:
Network adapter - wired IP address - failed Im sooo so confused with what to do now, anyone got any suggestions? Anything would be a great help i'm running windows xp sp 2 oh and i've looked into the crossover cable thing and either it doesn't matter or my cable is crossover because its been working for over three years so that point is moot please help and I'm not interested in buying any xbox wireless adapters or any alternate ways of getting my xbox online i just need help getting my pc to connect to my xbox 360 via ethernet again thanks for the help

Direct connection

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, I assume you unplug the internet and then plug the xbox into your machine?

Unless you want to do a lot of work you must set the ip addresses manually.

It is not a cable issue, if you get a light it means you have the correct cable. The message means it does not have a IP address you get cable is not connected or something when if it is a cable problem.

no i dont unplug my pc or xbox i get on to xbox live via internet connection shareing but the internet's not the problem it works fine forget about that it my Ethernet connection thats the issue when i connect my xbox to my pc it tries to connect then it say "limited or no connectivty" this has worked for over two years and now this is happening and idk why the weird thing is when i restore my pc to an earlier date my computer connects to my xbox just like before but then i cant connect to the internet my wifi usb thingy says i'm connected and that the signal is strong but web pages wont load so its kinda like damned if you do damned if you dont, you know what i mean? but i've un done the restore so i can get online and get help from fine gentlemen such as yourself

ICS

I see the evil internet connection sharing. This was designed in the previous days of modems. So I assume you are trying to use your PC basically as a wireless adapter for your XBOX.

There are entries in the sticky on this forum about ICS that may help. I would try to remove the ICS settings and start over. Even when it works ICS tends to be a pain to keep running.

The PC is acting like it does not have ICS enabled. When the PC detects 2 option for a network it will pick the BETTER one which by default is ethernet. You cannot run both at the same time without special configuration, or running ICS.

I know why you do it but the cost of a wireless extender for the XBOX may be worth it to avoid the aggravation of ICS

ethernet 1 config

Been away, figured someone else would see this.

Its been so long since I did ICS. The interface that says nvidia which appears to have a hard coded IP... in fact it is the same as your router.

You need to go back in and tell ICS to use this interface, it will then generate those funny 169 addresses it uses.

Since changing this requires editing the registry why not change the range of your router since that's documented and easier than registry editing?
