WiFi-AP welcome screen on connect

I have a small bar, i give internet to my clients through a Linksys WRT54G ... i think it will be cool and sophisticated to make a welcome screen with some text and the logo of the bar when the clients first connect to my AP.

For example ...

1 - users connect to my WiFi-AP "Le Bar"
2 - a welcome screen shows in browser, for example, "Thanks for choosing Le Bar"
with an OK button.
3 - when the user click the button he/she can start using internet as usual

is that possible, how can i accomplish that ?

Yep, that's done in hotels also.

The first thing that happens if you use your wireless connection in a browser is that you get a screen prompting you to type a username and password (or room number and password or such a combination) before it will work. That's coupled to a back-end system managing validity of the password. Could be coupled to your stay, or you have to get a new combination at the reception every day.

I've always wondered how they do it. It can't be something on my laptop, so it's something in their system. Obviously, they need more that a standard home router like that Linksys; that can't be programmed that way. But I don't know any of the hardware and software involved.

If no-one here knows, better contact a company like Cisco, a local data-communications install company or a company that sells application software for hotels.

It surely can be done.

There are many systems that do this for quite a price. If you want it easy there are number of commercial products available.

If you want cheap then you are going to have to do some work yourself. The general way to do this is to pass the traffic through a form of proxy that can intercept the traffic. Most are designed to do much more than just put up a screen but they can do that.

This site is interesting just because you have wrt54g. This is a application that runs directly on the router. The catch is that you must be running the linux OS on the router and only certain rev numbers of the router can do that.
