In this very forum we read this weekly it seems. Moving to WPA (not WPA2) seems to cure it.

Your router manual tells how. I can't comment too deeply since I can't find what router you have. All I can share is that we have encountered this issue on WEP too many times.

And you write you tried but no where did you write I did change it. Trying is one thing, doing the change is another.

I am now wondering how you keep malware off the machines.

Wifi is pretty easy with the setup we have in our forum sticky. It's possible you are not setup per the sticky and I don't see you telling us about the SSID setting. Or how many feet away the machines are, the VERSION of the WGR614, etc. All the little details.

There are 9 versions of the WGR614.

Thanks for filling in that detail. Here's 2 issues we can address.

1. SSID BROADCAST (please.)
Some drivers fail if you don't broadcast the SSID. There is some dated advice about turning if off but as everyone knows there is no added security. I'll stop here.

2. The http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wgr614v6.asp page notes it is not for the "WGR614v6-TDC" model.

The current firmware is Version 2.0.19_1.0.19 which has fixes for items like "DHCP pool setting problem. (If user set up the LAN IP to 10.0.0.1, it will cause the DHCP server cannot assign correct IP address to LAN PCs)."

That seems important...

It's also possible the laptop in question has issues. Here's the test. Try it at a free wifi hotspot.
