Music and video streaming are intermittent.

I'm attempting to use a Belkin wireless G (F5D7230-4) with an HP laptop running Vista configured with a 802.11 b/g card. In addition an i-Mac running the new Leopard OS is connected to the router by ethernet cable.
When streaming music or video on the laptop the signal will frequently pause for several seconds. I'm not sure if it's "re"-buffering.
Although I thought the G router was still faster than what the cable modem is capable of transmitting it appears the Mac's streaming speed has also slowed.
I'm wondering if the solution is a faster router (N, or G + MIMO). I also wondered if it's possible to connect a router to the cable modem USB port and keep the MAC connected directly to the modem by ethernet.
