Wireless stopped working after reinstalling driver

by keb909 - 1/22/08 7:34 AM

Hi,

Not that technically adept, but here goes.

I have an IBM T41 laptop with Windows XP, with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter.

Last night I got a message : "Windows has recovered from a serious error. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." The message continued to pop up about every 5 seconds until I went to the Microsoft website, which recommended that I update my wireless driver.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (I double-checked to make sure it was the right one), but now I can't get onto the wireless internet at all. I can usually see the wireless networks on the connection page (refreshing the network list brings up anywhere from no signal to four signals). But when I try to connect to any of the available networks, I can't get beyond the "waiting for network" connection stage.

The only other sign of a problem is that when I installed the driver, a command box popped up with this:

DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT\APPS\API >Start/Wait killac.exe
DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT\APPS\API >Start/Wait inst_api.exe

The guy at tech support at IBM thought it was the router, but the wireless works great on our other laptop and I've never had problems like this before.

I've tried repairing the connection, enabling and disabling, but nothing seems to help. Thus far, I've had no success Google-ing the answer. Have I overlooked something when I reinstalled the driver?

Thanks,
Kristin
