IPconfig /release and renew

Well lately ive been having a problem where my computer says there is an ip address conflict so I tried figuring out what the problem was but I only have one computer on this connection, so I couldnt but I found a temporary solution whenever I do the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew it seems to help... for about a day and then it starts again, so I was looking around some more and found out that doing ipconfig /release and renew expires after 24hours and I was wondering if there is a way to make it last longer... or just to fix the problem altogether

Router manufacturer and model?
Router firmware is latest from router manufacturer website?
Router's DHCP server is enabled/on?

Computer is running which OS?
Computer's network adapter is running latest driver?
Computer has a static IP address or computer is set to have IP address automatically assigned by DHCP server?

Router manufacturer and model? - Linksys wireless - G router
Router firmware is latest from router manufacturer website? - dont think so, ill update it
Router's DHCP server is enabled/on? - pretty sure

Computer is running which OS? - Windows XP
Computer's network adapter is running latest driver? Im not sure?
Computer has a static IP address or computer is set to have IP address automatically assigned by DHCP server? think its DHCP
