Starting from scratch

I'm a novice in the field of wireless. However, I'm exploring the possibility of establishing a computer lab that consists of 12 to 16 laptops (all wireless)coming from an ethernet system. Ideally, the system should use a single router. Any suggestions on type of hardware/software needed?

Just about any of your off the shelf linksys, netgear, dlink wifi routers will do this. The limit is usually 32 clients per wifi router or ... WAP.

plug-n-play (with a little configuring)

In addition to the wireless router (or router + WAP), each laptop needs to have a WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER.

The only software you normally have to install is the driver that comes with any wireless network adapter you might need to purchase for a laptop that doesn't already have one.

Configure the router.
Configure each wireless network adapter.

...and away you go!
