Networking & wireless forum: Problem installing internal wireless adapter

Do you mean to say that i need to download all drivers available for my laptop from the Gateway website and install it...wouldnt this be taken care by windows update??

Hello, Gateway e-mailed me(to another computer) the drivers which I saved to a CD, but I have nothing on laptop. I erased everything when I was trying to clean files; there were so many music files. I fix on computers all the time, but I think in Disk Cleanup, I ok'd files that I should not have to be removed.
How can I download drivers from CD to laptop without the XP program? The files are too large for floppies.
The person that I received laptop from did not leave the disks, so I have no Restoration disk and did not do a backup.
I cannot install Windows XP because I have no drives and I have to get another XP Home Edition.

I've got an OSX for Intel (dev) + Windows XP dual boot working on my 4025gz, so I was looking for a way to get my wireless to work in OSX (since airport uses a broadcom chip set), and I stumbled on your little problem, which I had a while ago.

Okay, I know it's been a while since you've posted, and you might have fixed it by now... but this drove me crazy when I first formatted my 4025GZ after I got it from Office Depot (for like $350 with this crazy deal from fat wallet). In XP Pro the Gateway driver doesn't work (which still doesn't make much sense), but HP makes one that does.

I think it was that site /\... if not just hop on google and start looking for stuff, eventually you'll find it.

It seems to be more of a reinstalling windows xp issue. Of course, I'm referring to a repair reinstall of winxp sp2, not a clean wipe and reformat clean install, which I assume would probably solve the issue (but it would be sooo much work!)

After I performed a repair reinstall of win xp sp2 (which, btw, had problems during installation, of not being able to read certain files that where clearly on the cd, even after I tried several different copies of that cd). Anyways, after a bumpy reinstall, it seemed not to be able to install the drivers for my factory installed broadband ethernet NIC. I tried everything. I got the most recent driver from dell. Uninstalled it, reinstalled it about 500 times, I tried booting it up in safe mode and reinstalling it, nada. Every time, the same problem. It would act like it was installing, the little win xp installing a non WHCL tested driver warning would pop up. It would show the little papers flying from folder to folder animation, and all of a sudden.... CANNOT INSTALL THIS DRIVER! There was a problem during installation of this driver: Error, windows cannot find the specified file. So I manually copy the drivers to the C:/windows/ /drivers, /drivercache, and /system32/drvers folders (i wanted to cover everything, lol. It just refused to install. Well I went out and got a wireless card/router, and after much fuss, and I got my belkin high speed 54g/108g wireless card installed (although windows recognizes it as a dell truemobile 1400 WLAN card, even after an install of the newest drivers for my exact model.

The problem is, I get intermittent, and frequent interruptions. I got a new linksys wireless router, with high gain 9db antennas, and a new linksys wireless card. Problem is I couldnt install the wireless card on my system. Same exact problem as the broadband ethernet nic install. After trying and trying and trying, I take back the card and get a new netg card (which was on sale that week lol). I get a normal 802.11 g card, a g usb adapter, AND a pre-n wireless card, which apparently is compatible with a g network, and supposedly (from what the box said), boosts the speed and range even if the router is plain 802.11g.
Couldn't install the drivers for ANY of them. ARGH!! Same exact problem, system cannot find the specified file. So I have resigned myself to living with the frequent disconnects, even though its driving me crazy, because I often have to redo everything I was doing if I try to send it during one of the interruptions. (Which by the way, the wireless signal monitor on my system tray is still showing excellent connections during those interruptions. HELP! anyone?
