Resolved question

Active@ Partition/File Recovery

by Kingbandaid - 2/22/13 1:30 PM

Hello,

I would like to promptly apologize if this is a repeat question, as searching didn't reward me with the answers I needed!

I have never attempted any data recovery before nor have I much experience in partition repairs of any kind. My experiences with partitioning has never exceeded simple installs of operating systems, dual booting, and other amateur tasks. Anyway, onto the problem!

I recently obtained a new computer that had Win8 on it. Disgusted with the OS, I began a fresh install of Win7. I I All went swimmingly in this portion. Next I started an install of Ubuntu 8.10(another one of very many install on multi-boot systems. To my knowledge, only my first(2tb Seagate) hdd was selected to be partitioned and installed (and I was paying VERY close attention to this because of a past mistake). Apparently the secondary (1tb Wd) hdd was somehow affected because after installation of Intrepid the drive didn't show up in 7. I've had this happen before so I went to disk management and assigned it a drive letter. After assigning the drive a letter, 7 just says it needs to be formatted. Naturally I was frightened!

After this scare, I popped in an Ultimate Boot CD and started PartedMagic and started Test Disk. As I mentioned before, I am not experienced with this so I didn't, and haven't gone very far into this yet. A scan in Test Disk reported and showed me all my folders and subfolders were intact but trying to do a repair failed. I read a bit about these situations and got the demo Active@ Partition and Active@ File Recovery.

I have read these programs have to do a "Superscan" and I have begun said scan this morning at around 10, Central time. It is now 3:20pm and the scan is sitting at 0% completed, having scanned about 1mil sectors out of nearly 3bil. The estimated time to completion that it's averaging will be around 27 days! Is this the method I will have to take to simply save and copy my files? It's a lot of data (about 600gb) and I will gladly disregard most of the data if only to retrieve my family photos.

ASrock 970 extreme 3
8gb Corsair
2tb Seagate 7200rpm
1.5tb WD Green Caviar
AMD Phenom quad core
Radeon HD 6790

I'm sorry if I've forgotten anything. I look forward to any help! I'm so upset that I made such a stupid mistake. But I guess it happens!

Thanks in advance!
