Storage forum: Portable disc doesn't work?!?!

I did, I put it into my PC without case but the disc was still "clicking" inside so I shut it down.
I didn't try with new case. You think that can solve the problem? I think something is wrong with read n' write head becausethis part of head is weird, like it's broken something.

Clickers are almost never saved by putting them in cases or other PCs. The drive is "gone."

So I'm not gonna get my documents from this disk back. I've got another disk which is also broken.The problem is when I want to connect connect it with USB it won't work. Nothing happened like it's dead even the panel does not start to rotate.

External hard drives appear to be less reliable than internals for many reasons that I'll skip as it's been said.

Think over where you used your documents and check those machines for old copies. Once in awhile you find someone that tried to keep all their stuff on an external. That never ends well if they didn't have backup copies.

Here I have backups and more. A few items are also on dropbox which if you think over makes a file "hard to kill." A few current projects are up there and as I go from machine to machine it syncs and again, make the files "Hard To Kill!"

You may have to decide if recovery is or is not worth it. I can't say if replacing the PCB will bring it back but folk do try. NEVER open the drive except where you want it never to come back.

Nope, we are talking about portable Hard Disk Drive

The read/write heads on hard drives are so close to the platters (much closer than the diameter of a human hair), that as soon as you open them up in other than a highly filtered clean room, they're ruined. A spec of ordinary dust, which is in the air everywhere, will cause the heads to do permanent damage to the platters and the heads, so you'll need to replace it. You can get 500 GB ones for $60 and 1 TB ones for as little as $70.

Once you open a HD, it's ruined. Only useful as a paperweight.

Be careful with your new disk(s) and don't forget to make a backup of everything you put on it.

But in the school we opened one HDD and run it and we downloaded all documents from it...?! How?

When I was, well, much younger than I am now, at work we had to replace our 120 MB (megabyte, indeed) 12-platter, 15 inch data disks to make space for backup disks (every day). Those were not enclosed air-tight, although, of course, they were covered on top (where you picked them up (but open on the bottom).

One day I dropped (or something like that) a piece of paper in the drive before putting the disk in. That wasn't fun.
