I formatted my HDD last night and went to install Windows 7 ultimate and I would get a error message saying cannot install because this drive may fail soon, please use another drive. It still installed the Windows without any problems, I already installed all updates and other programs no problems at all. I then received a microsoft disk error message saying to back up all files because of a failing drive. I started running chkdsk last night before bed, It went through the first 4 stages in under 5 minutes, no problems at all. Now it has been going very very slow on stage 5 of 5 verifying free space. It is around 29775570 of 56456097 of free clusters processed and is only going up at about 1000 per minute. It got to about 20000000 very quick as it did the other 4 stages but now I am not sure If I should restart my computer and try something else or just wait this out in what looks like it could take a week? It's been stuck on 56% since last night even though the actual numbers are moving. I do also hear the fan kick in every now and then.
I have heard it could speed back up again once it gets passed a certain group of bad clusters and could fix them? This started upon restart, I have the black screen so I currently cannot pull or do anything else on that laptop. Thanks
