Is there a device that can read hard drive disk platter

s there a device that can read hard drive disk platter. I have a hard drive that the read/write arm is not functioning. Is there a device out there where I can remove my storage disk platter and be able to read the data.

but the only folks that have them and do such work are in the DATA RECOVERY business.

Your best chance to avoid the expense of sending the HD

to expensive data recovery services might be to find an identical drive and swap the circuit boards. If the arm isn't moving because it's not getting proper current, the board could be the problem. It's a shot in the dark and finding an exact make/model and firmware revision is a crap shoot. Otherwise, opening the drive yourself greatly decreases the chance that data can be recovered.

But it's in the near million dollar range or higher. That's why recovery companies will take the media to a clean room and mount them in a good drive. Then it's only a few thousand dollars.
