Seagate 1tb beeping/clicking

I have a 1 year old seagate external harddrive, When I first plug it in to my laptop, it beeps/clicks about 8-12 times. once it done beeping/clicking it makes that windows usb sound, and nothing comes up... I looked in device manger, its there, but its not showing.

Where does the drive get its power?

Since no exact model is given I have to ask many more questions.

1. Where does the drive get its power?
2. Does it work on other computers?
3. Are you using the cable the drive came with?
4. Is the laptop on battery power?
5. And do you have a backup copy? The maker usually swaps the drive at under a year but some folk forgot these are not storage but fine copies.

better start looking at data recovery. Is the data on the external a backup or your only copy ?
