Hello everyone. I have scoured the web trying to find information on freeharddriverecycling.com, and have had no luck.
Long story short, I have a stack of hard drives from replacement after replacement of drives as my digital media collection grows. I have wiped all of them with a 3 time passover (excessive I know) except for one drive which won't even spin up.<div>
I am interested in recycling my hard drives because I don't want them to end up in a landfill. I was thinking of BestBuy but this company seems to specialize in hard drive recycling and thought it would be better to go with them. I was hoping to see if anyone out there has any experience with this company (freeharddriverecycling.com), or if it is simply a front for data collection.

Here's what I do, provided you have a local salvage metal/junk yard in your area. Using the proper tools, I tear down the HDs totally apart and/or at least dissembled to the basics. Keep the discs themselves and use as bird or garden scare devices or toss in scrap as well. Most of the metal is alum., thrown into 5gal. bucket and goto the junk yard and get a few $. Ferrous metal are tossed into soup can and that too is sold for scrap. Depending on your haul you get a few $ for gas. -----Willy
