signs of hard disk failure

For about a month sometimes I have trouble booting up my computer. It just hangs up at different stages of the boot up process. I restart it and windows 7 tries to fix it. It does not work. Windows says that files are loading to repair start up but they do not load. I restart it asgain and the same thing happens. So I turn it off for about 5 minutes and restart it again. Sometimes the same thing happens, but sometimes it starts up correctly. This has happened about 5 times in the past month. The hard disk is a little over 2 years old. It is a Seagate caviar 300 Gb.
Is this an indication that the drive is failing??

You said Seagate "caviar" but it's Western Digital that uses that term. Both WD and Seagate have diagnostics utilities you can use to do a fairly comprehensive test of their hard drives including mechanical and magnetic media surface analysis. The tests can be destructive (wipes you data) or non-destructive (nothing lost). I'd do that first.

My hard disk is a Seagate Barracuda 320 Gb. When I posted I assumed it was a Caviar. I didn't feel like opening the computer. Thanks for the post.
Could a hard disk be failing because often Windows 7 does not want to start?
