Hard drive unaccessible

Hi ya'll,
I have a 120G Western digital hard drive, it is only about 2 or 3 years old. A few months ago we had a storm come up, like fast, the first time I knew, and it thundered, we had a "brown out". The power just flickered, but it was enough to reboot my computer, and I instantly got the blue screen. It said my NTFS.SYS file was corrupt, with error message 0X24. I run windows xp home, and I have tried almost everything I know to do. Bought an external enclosure and tried that, hooking the hard drive up to another computer with Windows 2000.Oh, I forgot to add,I use another 20G Western Digital to run my system OS, and the 120G as storage for my games, pics, movies and any additional storage or big programs that would clutter up my little 20G.
So the 120G was configured as slave. I also ran western digitals diagnostic software, and it shows the drive, checked it for errors, even showed % of used space and % of free space and everything was fine, I just can't access my info.......
I have since purchased a 200G Maxtor to take it's place, but I want my info off the other drive.
Would running Linux off a cd work as I have seen some one suggested that on some other hard drive problems, or does anyone have any other suggestions?
