Storage forum: My external hdd has malfunctioned

1. It fail when you use the rear USB ports?
2. It fail on all other PCs?

Try the hard disk in a new enclosure or inside a PC. You'll find this advice in this very forum. Remember that small details are missing in your posts so I won't offer any other ideas.

I leave it to our members to share all the gritty details. If you don't feel like sharing front usb port of a HP 9218 desktop or whether power is via USB or other and MORE MORE MORE then I can't guess my way to an answer. It's up to you to tell all since there are no paid staff here. You make it easy on those that want to help you out.

well let me say this important issue every item used in windows is un secured with so many factors dont ever think that the data we saved on flash or hdd external is secured with any mean sorry for putting it so long the answer is : external drives based on my long years of practice is more likely to fall from us or stacked in bag where we dump it to with out any precaution of the damage happening inside well i can tell you you can give the disk to pro tech personal to give you back the data but the most important issue keep all your data in pair not only on external , the companies making those product don't give a dam about what happens with user i lost a very important data having the same hdd of Toshiba i could hear the whistling after replacing encluser but no luck of getting it on board only 4 years of springy used so let say that sea-gate makes better hdd in terms of reliability based on my experience
