My computer does not recognize my external harddrive

My brandnew Seagate Maxtor OneTouch is not recognized by my computer anymore. From first purchase it has worked fine. The harddrive fell off my bed to the ground.

Now when the harddrive is plugged into my laptop, the light turns on and a new noise can be heard that was not there before. But my computer continues to not recognize my harddrive.

I took the harddrive to Best Buy to see if they could do something. Best Buy's suggestion was to send it away for data recovery at a expensive price.

I would like either to repair the harddrive myself if possible or recover the data myself. Any advice and tips would be most appreciated.

You have the case and you have the hard disk. Replace the case first and hope. If not, look to drivesavers.com

There must be hardware problem in your hard drive. As your computer can not recognize it, you could not recover files by software. Besides, if you open the hard drive by yourself, it will make the problem worse. Generally, opening a hard drive should be in an environment of no dust. Do you have this condition?
Did you check in BIOS and disk management? If your hard drive still could be seen, it will be better.

I checked thru bios and disk management. The harddrive does not appear. And a no go on the dust free enviroment. I would like to recover the data, but does not seem worth the price.

I'm sorry for your problem, but there is no choice but send your hard drive to the manual data recovery company.
