Dear All,
Few days ago I bought a new desktop.
Processor: FX Quad FX-4100, 3.6 GHz, 12M, AM3+.
Motherboard details: AMD880G, M5A88-M, 16x,V(1GB),S,L,H,U3.
The computer is running fine.
But for the above configuration I installed windows 7 ultimate.
What I really wanted to know:
1. Is my pc a 32 bit based PC or 64 bit based PC?
2. I think it is 64 bit. But I installed windows 7 32 bit OS software. Because of installing 32 bit-based windows 7, the system type (right click on 'My computer' and then click properties) shows 32-bit Operating System!!
Please comment on my question.

The CPU can run both 32 and 64 bit operating systems.
2. Since you installed a 32 bit OS, you should see it report 32 bit. It's that simple.

What was the purpose of installing the 32-bit OS? As it stands the 32-bit OS will be what your PC now supports. How does this differ from when you received the PC on day 1?
When you brought the new PC, didn't it offer what the build composed of? I ask this, because it "should have been provided to you" or find out before the new OS install. As it stands, your current PC can handle either 32 or 64-bit operation. The h/w installed will do this for you. Basically, older systems that usually referred to the CPU installed.
The main difference between 32 and 64-bit OS installs is that the architecture of 64-bit will better handle memory handling and other OS related tasks. Whatever limits imposed under 32-bit are better handled by 64-bit(see link).

When it comes to CPU details, Intel and AMD readily provide that info. You locate your model stock number and proceed to review the specs. Generally, most newer CPUs are going to be 64-bit capable. The only ones still 32-bit are entry or bottom end CPUs. Alas, I exclude any of the other CPUs that maybe in Android or iPads, etc. type systems.
Non-original Win7, prepare for possible problems...
