Hey,

Probably a dumb newbie question, but I'll ask because I need to know.

I've got a secondary hard drive installed on my PC that I run some programs on. I recently uninstalled some programs, but instead of the free space increasing, it remained the same - and I took of about four gigs! I checked everything that was on there (including hidden folders and files), and found that I should have 50 Gigs free, but it only reads 45 Gigs free. I restarted, thinking that that would help, but it didn't. Where'd my five gigs go?

GiB vs GB

Most of it is probably the difference between, GiB (binary gigabyte) and GB (decimal gigabyte). Hard drive size is normally calculated using GB. Your OS normally calculates using GiB. A GiB is smaller than a GB.

Binary GB versus Decimal GB is about 7 GB difference on a 100GB drive. So yes!

System Restore?

If this is Windows then it is possible that the OS is backing up both the main drive where Windows is installed, as well as this 2nd drive which also has software installed on it.

Have a look at the System Restore settings to see which drives are being checked and backed up.

The problem was with a secondary hard drive - the recycle bin only takes up space on the primary. happy
