What is the average life-expectancy of a Dell Dimension 1100

I have Dell Dimension 1100 desktop computer that is seven years old.

I use this computer on average six hours per day, mainly to send / receive emails, surf the web, use Word Office software and stream movies.

Last year it went very slow, but after a service and the insertion of an additional 1GB of RAM, it regained a reasonable level of performance. It now has I.25 GB of RAM.

My question is this. What is the average life-expectancy of this type of computer.

Sometimes Dell offers a trade-in deal in respect of old computers (provided that they are functional).

If I could estimate when my present computer was almost at the end of its life, I might be able to take advantage of such a deal.

In PC terms anything over 3yrs. is a gift and after 5yrs. is a blessing so enjoy what you got. At the same time during those 5+yrs. much can happen and has. If the deal seems good and you don't want to pass on the PC or closet house it, then trade it in. You do two things, you get a new PC(under new deal) and you saved the planet and become green. Plus, you regain your closet space. A new PC after 5yrs. time offers besides being new is the newer OS, faster cpu, better abilities and maybe newer s/w(s/w bundle), in other words you get updated with the latest and greatest and usually that's a plus. Again, if the deal seems reasonable why not go for it.

But this will not tell you either the MTBF or MTTR of this unit. But on average you will need repairs inside the five years so my take is that it's a 5 years MTTR and shorter for laptops and far shorter if you do zero maintenance.

Sorry to bring up MTBF and MTTR but this is who we figure this out.
