drives wont work

Right now I use a windows 7 machine but I also want to set up an old Dell Optiplex GX110 to run Linux in addition. It was a computer that I lent to my brother. Unfortunately when I got the machine back I booted it up and none of the drives are recognized (floppy, optical, or hard drive). Nothing was done to the hardware so I guess there must be a problem with the bios (correct me if I'm wrong on this). Normally I would just flash the bios but I can't because the floppy drive isn't recognized. If any one knows a way to flash the bios without the use of any drives it would be helpful. Also, if any thinks they know a different reason why the machine might not be working let me know.

Don't be in a hurry to flash. Open system case and check all connections. Reseat them all and be100% sure they're fully seated. try to power-ON and check status to include power is present. GX systems tend to be very fickled about power and if it has the LEDs on PSU, what are is the display. Use that to check status as well. Having some power is not being 100% good power on all voilatges. Also, the handling may have broken or your bother got into it(???). Once results are understood, then proceed with corrections.

the BIOS can be set back to default by shorting two pins on the motherboard.
