A770M-A AM2+/AM2 is not reading additional 2Gb added to 4gb

If my question is still confusing, I am basically trying to add 2GB on to the 4GB of RAM being read(3/4 slots). When I add the memory it doesn't read in BIOS or in Windows 7. It should from what I've read, register and calculate it as an extra single channel but it's not reading at all.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with this motherboard:

I'm trying to add a different brand but the memory has the same specs as the RAM already placed.

1. Test to see if this new stick works alone. Just that stick.

2. What happens next means what call you'll be making.

The board is discontinued and the links to manuals drivers are deleted from manufacture page..


Yea I didn't try that but I did try to place the one 2Gb DIMM stick in the 1st slot and put the other 2 in the other channel slot skipping the 2nd slot to make it read that stick as a single channel and the others as a dual. The result was the BIOS failing to boot and after placing the RAM back it booted and notified of a "DQS training failed on previous boot, reverted to slower Dram speed" occurred. I read about DQS training and found that it's usually an error that happens when the voltage is too high or inconsistent for the board to handle, instead of reverting it basically didn't reboot at all when the other DIMM was inserted. The memory I'm trying to install has been used in another PC of mine fine. A little bit of info I found about this certain DIMM G.Skill has had an error like that pop up with some AMDs.

The board does not work with this lone memory stick in any slot.

To me this means the memory is incompatible. Send it back.

I didn't see anything illuminating but there is a RAM voltage adjustment in the BIOS that might be worthwhile checking. Sometimes you find notes in the RAM installation section that specify restrictions for RAM installation nor previously revealed.

So you have 2 DIMMs at 2 GB ea for 4GB and you added a single 2GB DIMM ?

The usual memory config is pairs of matching DIMMs in the designated DIMM slots.

I got these basic specs:

It is a DDR2 mode mtrbd. and what you intended to do isn't right for DDR2. Unless, you can change the RAM setting to DDR, then maybe as it seems you want to do. But, in most cases for RAM installs, its all done "automatically" or it freezes. I suggest you install new ram and one of the old ram and check results as if "paired" in the proper 1st set of DDR2 slots. If it doesn't work, then it's probably a bad ram. You already stated you tried with new ram by itself and fails. Either, the new ram is bad, not true compatible or it needs a bios update. The bios update is a critial step, so be sure beforehand of this step to proceed. Also, if you have access to anopther system, install ram and using PC Wizard 2010, check status of ram for its specs when displayed. This shows what the ram truly is what you look for when ordering. If re-ordering get a matched pair, either 2x2gb or 2x1gb ram sticks. Of course, follow the other steps other posters offered but I think this maybe what you need to do above.

I believe when I asked this I probably could have done what was suggested and update my bios and it probably would have given better results. Anyway I'm sorry I let this thread go on, now I'll wait to get something to show promising performance increasing the amount of RAM on arduous number crunching tasks. A Xeon(since I want to get into 3D workstation and such) or possibly a Q66 even though an obsolete CPU it still holds up to Intels rep not really ideal for 3d but cheaper now. As for the motherboard I'd obviously replace along with and then go back on adding more RAM maybe DDR3 this time. :B
