Questions about a new computer

Hello!

I'm ready to buy a new desktop and need help with some of the "lingo". Please explain: 4GB dual channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 667 Mhz 4DIMMs
This is for a home computer - no gaming/music - just your basic email, doucments, pictures.

Considering a Dell with Windows XP. There seems to be some cut-off date in June to be able to still get the XP and not Vista.

For a basic home computer with XP ...

and what you use it for, 1 GB of memory is enough. No use at all to have 4 GB. But you might need 2 sticks (DIMMs) if it is dual channel. Then 2 Gb is fine, but 2 times 512 Mb is fine also.
If you plan to switch to Vista or its successor (Windows 7) some time in the future on this machine, buy 2 GB now.

The memory and the setup need to be compatible with the motherboard. No need to know exactly what DDR2, SDRAM 667 Mhz mean. It's nice current stuff, that's all you need to know.
