Simply because it'll be easier to upgrade in the future when you want to add more hard drives, upgrade the video card, etc.

I'd build it myself, and if that wasn't an option, I'd go with a legitimate boutique builder at that price point, Falcon Northwest, Alienware, or VoodooPC

building it yourself also starts to look attractive when you can save roughly half the price of whatever the "top end gaming rig" you're looking at

Voodoo support is seriously bad.

For the amount of time you'll spend waiting for Voodoo support to get back to you if you have problems - and you will have problems - you might as well build your own. My Blackbird crashes a LOT, and I try to contact Voodoo support a LOT to fix the problems. When I finally get them, they put me through the expected Microsoft KB with hotfixes etc., but to no avail. I'm currently waiting for a promised phone call from Voodoo, and I've been waiting for three weeks, subtly and not so subtly reminding them along the way that my problems are still outstanding. Build your own. You save big money and get better support that way. I'll never buy from Voodoo again.
