PC Won't Finish Start Up....

I've got an HP a305w Pavillion, uses Windows XP:Home Edition.
Early last morning, it started having a really weird problem. When I turned the computer on this morning an odd prompt screen came up: "We're sorry for the incovienience but windows could start up successfully..." and so on. It then gives me the various choices of how to start windows, Safe mode, Safe mode with net interface, Safe mode with command prompt, and start from last shut off point.
No matter what choice I selected it would attempt to load windows then would abruptly restart as if I had just turned it on. Ive tried using each of the choices the prompt screen gives me, but the result is the same. No matter what, the PC restarts as if I had just turned it on.
Its not my primary PC, so it hasn't been cleaned or defragmented in a VERY long time. So the cause is pretty clear, but if anyone knows how to fix it, that'd be great!
Thanx for listening!
