Mobile Wi-fi battery question

I'm thinking of changing from landline broadband to mobile wi-fi & have found a device & plan that might suit.

However the battery life of the device has me worried.

My idea is that the device will completely replace my broadband wireless router in the home & also be able to connect me while I am out & about. At home the router runs 24/7 & my usage is about 16hs daily.

The battery life of this wi-fi device is only up to 6hrs which is far short of what I need.

So I need to discover if the device can operate while it is plugged in for recharge. Does anyone know if it can it be left plugged in permanently?

If I can leave it plugged in all the time, I would buy the device outright & then find a suitable plan that will work where I live in a rural area.

I've had 2 MiFi units. Both work fine while on the charger.

HOWEVER all the devices at all locations across the USA seemed to "drop" the connection on the hour or every other hour. For those "gamers" or folk that think they will be able to use video over the internet this will be an unsettling move. For those that just need email and web, it's fine.
