Laptop will not connect automatically

A friend has Windows 7 laptop and a MacBook running Lion. Their Netgear router was configured such that it was not broadcasting their SSID which was causing some other issues. So they changed the router settings to now broadcast instead. Since then, neither system will connect automatically. They connected both manually but with each reboot or coming out of sleep mode they have to connect manually again. Systems are current on updates and router is running the latest firmware.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My netgear had the latest firmware and it was buggy. I had to go back a version. It's a shame that the model was not shared as the wnr3x000 series seem to have this issue.

Hiding the SSID is not helping security. Some thought it would. Disproved and it turns out, creates problems.
