Dell Dimension 8200 Wireless Advice, Please

I am so confused. I have tried to find a discussion concerning upgrading my Dimension 8200 to wireless.

My situation:

I have a Netgear Router (WGR614v9) and Suddenlink Cable Modem downstairs. My 8200 is upstairs. I want to make the 8200 have a wireless connection with the downstairs router. I tried an adapter once but it wouldn't connect. I have the original USB 1.1 and am running Windows XP.

Please be specific. I need to know exactly what to buy to make the 8200 wireless.

I could not connect to my router until I was up to SP2.

That could explain the connection issue and since some can't update, here's a SPECIFIC device that gets around that issue.
