I guess you could say I have experience with Dish Satellite internet. From what I have read, the Dish offering is through a collaborative offer between Dish and Via Sat. I have had "Wild Blue" satellite internet for over 6 years now and Wild Blue is owned by ViaSat. The service was intermittent or non existent during any kind of rain or worse weather event and it did not have to be raining that hard. The speed was anything but dependable and the support was laughable. And the only reason I have stayed with them is they are just about the only game in town. I live in rural east Texas and there is just not anything else. Oh yes, it was and still is astronomically expensive. I pay $85/month for a total of 17 GB a month. That is the equivalent of 4 movies and absolutely nothing else...no email, no news, no chatting, no picture sharing nothing. So I don't do movies...period. However, the service has gotten better and they launched a generation 4 satellite last year and have offered a new service (which does nothing for me) that has 12MB download speeds and up to 25GB a month. It is more expensive than my service.
At the same time, since they were migrating existing customers off of their old satellite, they upped the speed for old customers to 3MB and I will have to say the service is better, more consistent and fairly reliable...but still $85/month. Here are four days worth of my latency, download and upload speeds
Latency DnLdSpd UpLdSpd
839 3.24 0.16
870 3.21 0.15
1421 3.22 0.1
1026 3.26 0.11
the latency is in milliseconds, and the speeds are in Mb/s
Hope this helps.
