Wifi/ Hard Wire computer issues

Hello all,
I have an HP hardwired pc and a Dell wifi lappy.

My question: How can I connect the 2 computers so they can see each other, share files, etc.

While MSFT did try to make it easier with homegroups, there are folk that explode when they can't share the C drive or have to allow sharing on the router.

I can't tell where you are yet and plenty of web content to read on this.

Could be simple

I am assuming both PC's are connected to the same router, so in Windows 7 or 8 you can use Homegroup which makes things very simple. If you have XP you can make the 2 PC's part of a Workgroup. Once you do either of these, any shared folders and files will appear when you click on the PC's name on your network map (My Computer>Network)
