How to set up internet on a 2nd PC on existing wireless

I recently got a PC for free from work because they upgraded since Microsoft no longer supports WIndows XP, which this one has. I have a PC with wireless internet now and I want to set this 2nd PC up to the internet and I tried U-Tube and Google and so far I've struck out on a successful hook-up. I have all the necessary IP address info etc and no luck. The PC I received has not been set up to wireless internet before. Does this mean I have to connect an ethernet cord from my router to the 2nd PC so I can get internet access?

That's news to me. Yes you have to pay for it but from what I see, it works fine and no need to call support.

With that out of the way, and no make/model/settings of the wifi router I'm guessing this PC was setup for a work DOMAIN. To fix that you install the OS again but when asked, answer it's a workgroup or home use.

My boss told me that about Windows XP. Probably not right now but in the future.

If the PC is located near the router, then simply connect an ethernet cord. Not sure what IP addreess information you have, but you should configure the PC for DHCP (auto obtain IP).

There's a good chance your PC is not wireless capable, but check with your IT guys. You can just purchase a relatively inexpensive USB wifi adapter and be set up wirelessly rather quickly.

As Bob mentioned, if the PC was configured for a work domain, you may have more work to do.

Thanks for the reply. Now that you mentioned it; I'm thinking that this PC is not wireless capable. When I was in the cmd area, there was no wireless data at all. That was another question I had was; What do I need for this pc so it can talk to the router. So you say a usb wifi adapter, I will pick one up. This c-net forum is awesome thanks again for the reply! Bob
