Obtaining wireless network from a wired desktop

Hello folks,

DW works in a clinic where they have an old wired network. Due to budgetary issues, they can not upgrade the network at the moment. But they are trying out a system offered by one insurance company where they need to use a tablet for recording patient data and of course wireless network. The office manager is old school and doesn't want to step into router business..

I was wondering if USB wi-fi adapter can be a temporary solution for their needs. I am not too sure how the whole thing works. They don't want to mess with the current system setup. Does it need installation of any driver/software or it can be used with Windows XP as a plug-n-play hardware? I searched Newegg and came up with these hardwares Is this the right one?

Can anyone flash some light on this? Any recommendation on hardware will be very much appreciated. Just to note, an encryption is needed (because of patient data) and this dongle will be removed at the end of every day (if sleeping the computer doesn't disconnect the internet).

(P.S. - This will be used in a small examination room so much range is not really required.)

So Virtual Router?

I can only offer what should work and no support for it.

Here's the Virtual Router you would use to drive the usual WiFi dongles -> http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/

As to encryption. It's a sad story of governments that don't want air tight security so while this supports WPA2, who said that is all that secure?
