hi
system restore seemed to fix the problem but the next time i turned on computer it was back again. i have now done system restore 5 times to get it working again but it's getting annoying. i've tried different things like stopping automatic updates, etc. but it still has the same problem every time. even though it fixes every time i do a system restore - it still has the same problem the next time after being shut down. any ideas what it could be???

I have pretty much the same issues right now. I have two laptops (both Dells) and recently one of them stopped being able to actually go on the internet. The other, which i am typing on right now, works fine. I've compared setting between both computers, but there are very few, if any, differences.

This has become quite perplexing seeing that i also have a Kindle Fire, a Roku box, a PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as two different Android phones and an iPod Touch hooked up to my network on a daily basis. I have not had a single problem in the past 10 months with this setup until just the other day.

I will be patiently awaiting some possible help with this situation.

You don't tell anything about the symptoms besides it "doesn't actually go to the internet". That makes it impossible to give a solution.

So let me only ask some random questions:
1. Does it connect if you use a wired connection?
2. Can it communicate (wireless) with the other laptop in your home network? Did that ever work?
3. What IP-address does it get wirelessly (see output from ipconfig /all)?
4. Is the wireless connection enabled (switch or software)?
5. Does it connect to the router (does it show up on the router management page like the other devices)?
6. Does wireless work if you run from Linux disk?
7. Any issues for the wireless in Device Manager?
8. If you go to a public hotspot, can you connect to Internet there?
9. Can you do system restore back to when it still worked?
10. Does it work in a new Windows account?
Just trying to get a better idea of the situation.
