suddenly lost laptop internet connectivity

I spent wayyy too much time -I mean hours- trying to fix my laptop. All was fine then suddenly I have no internet connection. I am "connected" to my wireless network but "no internet connection". I am at a loss on this because:

1) my internet connection-modem (Comcast) is fine-Im able to access on my desktop
2) the wireless router is fine as the desktop can print to the wireless printer

The diagnostic on the HP laptop tells me there is a "problem with modem-contact your internet provider". Resets, unplugs, etc -on modem and router-do nothing.

As I can connect to the internet here on my desktop- no issue w the modem or I couldn't get online at all.

Sooo...as a last resort, I tried restoring the system to a date earlier in the week, that too will not net me a connection as the restore does not take.

This makes me realize just how connected I am on my laptop. I am ready to screeeeeeam!

- Did the laptop lose ALL connectivity, or just the WIRELESS connectivity? In other words, does the laptop connect to Internet if you connect it wired?
- Is the exact message something like this: ""This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources."? That's a well-known issue.
- If you go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all (+ enter), what does it show for gateway, IP-address and DNS?

Thanks Kees. I dont know how to get to the COMMAND prompt run: command or run ipconfig isnt working.

the diagn message is: Your broadband modem is experienceing connectivity issues. Unplug and turn off modem. wait 10 sec, turn on and plug back into power, restart.

In the GENERAL tab I have: IPv4 connectivity: no internet access, IPv6 connectivity no network access, media state enabled
and all bars on signal quality bytes sent and received 30,492 42,756

Frankly I dont know how to get my laptop connect wired and since my desktop is the only functioning connection, I dont wanna mess with that and risk losig everything.

"The connection betw access point, router or cable modem and internet was broken" however
shows wireless connection as "Excellent"

ends up MCaffee updates were posing a problem w Windows. I uninstalled mcaffee and was able to get on fine!

reinstall is ok so far...hopefully will stay upon shut down. Thanks Kees!
