Do I need a PowerLine adapter? Which?

I use an LG Blu-ray player to stream Netflix. The wireless signal it gets is variable and often too low, even though my wireless network is fast enough for my laptop, which can play Netflix movies just fine sitting right next to the TV. (My Internet is through Verizon FiOS, with a router two floors up.) LG tech support recommended that I buy a basic PowerLine set-up, with a hard-wired connection between the Blu-Ray and the plugged-in device.

I'm obviously new to this, and a little overwhelmed by the number of PowerLine options. I also want to spend as little as possible since my wireless network is satisfactory for everything except streaming Netflix.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Be aware I can't vouch for it other than it does work fine here within the same limitations of all powerline networks. I don't want to duplicate all that is out there about "same AC branch circuit" and so on. With that out of the way, just a link to amazon.

RProffitt: Thanks for the link.

I'd be interested to hear from others who might have an opinion about whether a PowerLine set-up is really my best option here, and, if so, whether I can avoid spending $50 or more for the very basic arrangement I need just to stream Netflix.

Most devices like BD players

Have a lot less antenna and well, a lot less in the WiFi department. You'll see posts from folks new to this comparing WiFi on a laptop to these other devices but since the design goals are different, and the crushing force for lowest prices, this is nice to get the WiFi in the box for that price.

Moving the WiFi router closer works too.

Wireless Bridge Option

I've had very good luck with powerline adapters and use them regularly to solve issues such as yours. They are very quick to set up and hassle-free. You just have to do a simple reconfiguration to your BD player's settings to use the wired connection. Some can be costly though, and sometimes not sold in pairs. Be aware of what Bob mentioned about using the adapters on the same power leg.

A slightly less costly option is a wireless bridge. I purchased one from Amazon for $40 shipped (now offered $5 lower than when I bought it). Works very well but may require a bit more effort to get it set up initially. If you feel that it is only the lack of BD player's wireless capabilities causing issues and not the actual signal strength from the access point, then this might be something to consider trying.
