I can't codify the entire knowledge into a few replies. I tried to give you the basics and you seem to have ignored it.

What are you doing that will actually use more than 100m. Unlikely you could get a internet connection in your house that will actually do 100m. Even within your house you could do file replication between servers but why would you do that over wireless.

The only way you are going to get anywhere close to the rated speeds is to build a special room lined with copper screening and then only send data in a single direction. Even acknowledgements of the packets mean you now have 2 devices your router and your pc interfering. Wireless is half duplex only 1 device can talk if more than one talks you get errors and retransmission reducing the rate. How useful is data that flows 100% in one direction.

You have to remember that if you run 300m on 2.4g you are trying to use 2/3 of all the allocated frequency. If anyone else also tries to use any part of the area you have selected you will get errors because that radio signals corrupt each other. This either causes retransmission which slows you down or if the devices are really smart they will dynamically change the data encoding method to a more robust but slower one.

Here I can connect directly to my router for a 1Gb connection to my router.

If you thought it is bad today, I can only guess you didn't live through the first days of WiFi. It was much worse and then we had the "Pre-N" devices. Ouch.

You asked what it would take to hit those higher speeds and for me to get there I end up with the same maker router and client hardware.

I hope you understand why but today's newer users don't have the benefit of living through the development of WiFi to present day.

I did have to deal with pre-N, but not very much. So I know arrangement is critical. I just bought a brand new laptop, and of course only one brand of wifi networking card is offered. Huge pain in the.... I'd rather not replace my perfectly good (and less than a year old) router either. Guess I'll go harass D-link. Though I did email them and was told to change some settings...and I briefly got 270 until I had to restart the router for the changes to take effect...and back down to 130. Just frustrating.
