Anyone have a D-link 655 wireless router that works good?

I just bought a D-Link DIR-655 to replace my Belkin Surf Router (F7D2301) I had to call D-link to have them set it up because it wouldn't allow me to self install it. After it's working and I get off the phone I check the signal strength on my downstairs desktop(The wireless router is connected Upstairs) The signal strength is at 26MPS it's so bad I can't even install Security Essentials updates!

Before my Belkin crapped out I was getting 48mps. I have 2 laptops also with built in wireless and I am getting low signals to. Anybody know what's going on? I'm tempted to send it back and buy another Belkin which surprisingly has much worse reviews yet works better.

That is the magic with wireless. No matter what the reviews are when it comes to signal strength and coverage every house will be different. The only difference you can depend on in reviews is the user interface or software features. Any test for distance or signal strength are meaningless since they are unique to the location.

Did you use the same setting for channel. Different frequencies have different coverages in some houses.

In this case you have external antenna try changing the direction to see if it has any effect. Even moving the router around the room a small amount will sometimes make a difference.

Be careful you never really know even you buy exactly the same brand of router that they have not changed things on the inside.
